Day 1: Letting go
Welcome to 5 days of joy, a free exploration of the power of poetry and mindfulness.
Welcome to 5 days of joy, a free exploration of the power of poetry and mindfulness. I invite you to be open and curious – read the poem slowly, allowing yourself to be present in your body as you do so. If you have time, there are two writing prompts to try out. If you would like to share, you can use the chat function on Substack, or if you’d rather share privately just drop me a note.
With love from Midnight
When the day’s mistakes
are too much to bear
when everything feels
like devastation beyond repair,
remind yourself:
how mystical it is that everyday
the clocks reset to 00:00
The reason they say
midnight is the witching hour,
is because a day rises
from the ashes of the old
embers breathe new life to its fire,
giving us a chance to mend,
a chance restore
all that is broken
and what you thought was lost.

Quick prompt
Close your eyes for a moment, and notice what you feel in your body after reading this. Maybe there’s a word or two, a phrase, a mood, that come up. Write them down, even if they make no sense.
Optional writing prompt
Think of one thing you could let go of today. Write about how you will set it free — where will you go, what will you do, how will it feel? Write for 3 minutes.
Love these prompts... the most remarkable things about our daily lives are often those things we take for granted.
