I have been thinking about healthy ageing a lot – I suppose I feel like I am getting old, despite my mum constantly telling me that I’m basically still a child (she also thinks I’m not middle-aged, even though I quite clearly am bang on in the middle of what I could hopefully expect to live to). I suppose I’m also noticing things change, like my sudden acne phase leaving scars that are taking longer to clear than they did when I had full-on acne as a teenager (yes, I am a Roaccutane teen) or the wrist tendonitis that I randomly acquired last week (on my left wrist, wtf?) lingering on days and days later.
The thing about ageing is that we definitely can’t predict how things will go. We can’t be sure that we’ll be fit and healthy, or that we won’t die very suddenly before our body gives up. We can’t be sure of anything, but what we can do is our best to have a healthy lifespan.
And that’s where yoga comes in.
Ageing impacts our immune system
It shouldn’t be a surprise that, as we get older, our bodies start to function a little less optimally. I mentioned already how much longer my skin is taking to clear out the redness, and that’s because my body is getting older and is basically much worse at most things than it was 20 years ago.
Our immune system is no exception.
